Wow, 2 posts in a row, I am on a roll!  It is time for FMM!

If you’ve taken part in FMM then you know the rules. If you’re new, please take a moment to answer this week’s question on your own blog then add your link in the comments section at: any my blog so we can all see your FMM questions and answers.  Please invite your blog readers to add their links there too so everyone has to opportunity to be seen. The idea is to connect with other awesome bloggers so take a moment to post your own FMM post and comment on a couple of other posts. Now it’s time for this week’s topic!

My friend, Heidi from Finishing The Hat contributed to this weeks questions.  Be sure to check out her fantastic blog, full of recipes, Adventure Wednesdays and Fashion Fridays.

FMM: Girly Questions
1) Do you like to shop? Yes, I do!  In fact, my husband even enjoys going shopping with me unless it is football season.  LOL!  I am trying to only buy what I NEED and not what I WANT, in an effort to save money.  I also like window shopping.

2) How often do you wear makeup?  I used to wear it everyday, but in the past few years, I started having skin issues and allergic reactions to it, even the hypoallergenic stuff.  Right now, I wear it when I want to feel pretty or if I know I have to take pictures.

3) How do you feel about nail polish? I like it, but I wash my hands so often that it chips or starts showing wear a few days after my manicure.  I sport the natural nail look most of the time and will get my nails polished for special occasions or when I go on vacation. (Like next weekend!)  I will use any color and go mostly for pinks and reds.
4) Do you consider yourself to be a feminist? I guess so.  I am very independent and strong willed.  I think my inner feminist came out when I started watching Mad Men.  The way they were treating the women in that show was appalling and I was thankful I didn't have to live in those times.

5)  What’s your biggest challenge as a woman?   Being pregnant, giving birth and being a mother.

6) Do you wear skirts and dresses? I would love to but have always hated the way I look in them.  I didn't even consider giving them another try until I started reading Heidi's blog. She has inspired me in her Fashion Friday's .  Her style overall is smart, fun, feminine and flirty. I think she should be my personal stylist ;)   She looks beautiful in her dresses and I hope to find a style that flatters me.
7) How do you feel about high heels? Ewww, no.  They kill my feet.  I am a flats kind of girl.  I have 1-2" heels for work that I rarely wear, but have in case of emergency or if I have to break out the suits.

8.)  Do you subscribe to magazines? If so, which ones?   I used to subscribe to Cooking Light, Weight Watchers, and Entertainment Weekly.  I stopped the subscriptions because I never got time to really enjoy them anymore.  Now I just get the Pottery Barn Kids catalog.  LOL!

9) Do you shave your legs/wax/ use depilatory creams or go au naturale? I shave my legs and underarms, although probably not as often as I should.  LOL!  I am  known to get a bit stubbly.
I used the depilatory cream on my lip and either pluck or get my eyebrows threaded.

10) What do you like most about being a woman?  Everything!  I love that a woman's body is naturally softer and curvy.  I love boobs (even though mine aren't perfect.)  I love that I can have children and bond with my child in a way that no man can ever understand.

Now it’s your turn to answer the questions! And don’t forget to link up. Happy Monday!

Tomato-Jicama Relish

I killed two birds with one stone today:  I tried a new vegetable and made a recipe from my dusty Clean Eating Magazine cookbook. I have been salivating over this flank steak recipe with a tomato-jicama relish since I got the cookbook.  Today was the day, we finally prepared it.  (I apologize for lack of pictures, the camera was not charged and well, we were starving when dinner was ready and just dug in.)

Before we get to the recipe, a little about jicama:  According to the Clean Eating Magazine cookbook, "Jicama is the crunchy, sweet root of a legume and adds a zippy and exotic touch...  it provides great flavor without adding many calories."  I am all for great flavor with little calories!

The recipe:
1 cup of diced ripe tomatoes
1 small green bell pepper, diced
1/2 cup diced jicama
1/4 cup diced white onion
2 Tbsp chopped fresh chives
2 Tbsp red wine vinegar
1 Tbsp honey

Combine in a bowl, season with salt and pepper to taste.  It's that simple!

The result:  Delicious!  I thought the jicama took on the flavors on the bell pepper and onion and really didn't have a strong flavor of it's own.  I did notice the relish had a bit of a bite to it, so that may have come from the jicama, as we didn't add any heat ourselves.  It paired well with the grilled flank steak and we added white rice and grilled corn on the cob to round out the meal.  Very satisfying and bonus, we have left over relish for our grilled chicken tomorrow night. (Oh, maybe I can get a picture of the left over relish and post tomorrow!)

Hello There!

I just rejoiced that one of my favorite bloggers had posted again after a long hiatus and realized I too was being a bad blogger.  Oops!  So, I am back and with some happy updates.

I am proud to announce that I am a regular now at Slimmons!  Working out there has been a blast and I have made some super awesome friends in the process.  I have been consistently going for the past month, with the exception of one bad week, and couldn't be more pleased with myself.  I struggled for so long to find an exercise program that excited and motivated me.  I am pleased I finally found it.  I have a lot more energy, sleep better and am generally happier.  I crave the exercise now and am sad if I miss a workout.  I am going only the three days a week, but plan on upping my workouts to 4 days and then growing to 5 per week.  Baby steps.  Here is a link to the class I managed to get my husband, Daniel to attend.  Richard pulled us into the circle to dance with him.  We are at the 3:49 mark.

I am at the end of my Occupational Therapy sessions for the Lifestyle Redesign Program for Weight Loss and Management.  Overall, the experience has been good.  I learned more about my behaviors, the why's behind those behaviors and how to overcome them.  I truly see a difference in lifestyle now.  I will do a larger recap of the program on another post.  I think it was successful, in the lifestyle aspect and has set me up for future success in the weight loss front.

Speaking of weight loss, I have lost a total of 16lbs this month.  Yippee!  I had one dicey week, but in the end, I had a tremendous month for weight loss.

During this quiet month, and my 1 hour commute home from Slimmons three days a week, I have had a lot of time to reflect and re-evaluate my goals.  I know that reaching my overall goal weight of 135lbs by the end of 2012 is unrealistic.  I would have to lose an average of  3lbs per week in the next 73 weeks.  I don't want to put that much pressure on myself.  Instead, I have decided that I would like to lose 135lbs by 2012.  That is about 1.5lbs per week for 73 weeks and would put me in the 180 lb range.  It is still a lot of weight to lose, however, I have over a year to get it done.  I think if I can keep up with these lifestyle changes, I can make it happen.  So, 135 by 2012 has a different meaning to me now, but still a good goal to pursue.

As for the blogs, sorry if I have been so quiet lately.  I am reading your blogs, even if I am not commenting.  Another goal I am setting for myself is to do 3 posts per week (on the nights I am not at Slimmons.)

Thanks for being here and part of my journey.  I appreciate all your support and encouragement.
