Even though I have been silent for the past few months, I was still trying to make small changes to my everyday routines.  I successfully accomplished a few small changes that am proud of and wanted to brag about share with you.

  • Stopped eating fast food - It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be and I definitely don't miss it.  Interestingly enough, I feel as if a fog has lifted.  I didn't realize I was in any type of fog, but I feel some clarity and am able to focus a little more.
  • Significantly reduced soda intake - I went through a period at work where I was working until Midnight for weeks straight.  I was drinking a lot of caffeinated soda to keep me going that late.  Soda made me crave sweets like crazy and of course sitting at my desk all night, I was looking for snacks.    Once my schedule started normalizing at work, I started limiting my intake to two sodas a day, one for lunch and one for dinner.  Now, I am down to maybe one for either lunch or dinner, if that.  If we go out to eat, I order tea or water and really doing what I can to eliminate them all together.  I have noticed since I stopped drinking the soda, the sweets cravings have drastically reduced and made it easier to resist them.
  • Sugar, who?  - I am not going to lie, I still love me some chocolate, cake, brownies, cookies, etc. but I was getting out of control with my consumption.  I was eating at least a couple servings a day.  I had to stop.  I noticed I had a habit of eating one of those little drumstick ice cream cones each night before bed and was trying to figure out how to quickly break the habit.  I wasn't the one bringing them into the house, but I wasn't exactly stopping it either.  First step, I asked my sister to stop buying them and the second step was to sweat out the craving.  The one thing that really helped me kick the habit was the period I stopped eating dinner.  Since I wasn't allowing myself to eat past 4pm, I wasn't allowed to indulge in the snacks that were around.  I was a beast for about a week, and had massive headaches, but once I "detoxed", the ability to ignore the craving or move past it became much easier.  My sister is still buying sweets, but I am at the point where I can have a small serving once a week and am satisfied.
  • No eating past 4pm - This wasn't a long term change nor do I recommend it , but it is something I did to help me to not only jump start some weight loss but get my eating under control.  As mentioned above, it helped with my late night snacking, but it also helped in a way with my portions.  I was eating way too much food.  Felt as though my stomach was stretched and no amount of food filled me up.  I could eat large meals and then still go looking for snacks an hour later.  I needed to do something to help shrink my stomach.  It was really hard, but I stuck to it.  Once I made it past the first week, it became second nature, and wasn't as difficult.  I lost 10 lbs the first week.  I am not doing it anymore, but have changed my evening routine.  I eat a much lighter meal at night and notice I have more energy and time in the evening to do other things:  exercise, blogging, reading, next day meal prep etc.

Little by little, I am getting into a new groove and I am realizing that I am not missing any of those old habits or things I decided to limit or give up.  I am on the right track and feeling good about it.

Hope you are happy and healthy :)

Yes, I have been a bad blogger

If you are still out there following, hello!!  I am still working hard, trying to find the balance between work, motherhood and self and trying to lose some darn weight in the process.  I haven't made it past those pesky 20lbs that I keep losing and gaining.  I should change the blog title to 20lbs by 2012.

My weight has been all over the place these past few months.  I even went as far as trying to "jump start" my weight loss by not eating dinner and some other not so successful actions. I plan to get back on a steady course and do what I know is right and proven successful for me.

My work schedule and home life has been upside down and I see it settling back to a normal pace shortly, allowing me to make some changes that I will be sure to document and share with you all.

I have also had baby fever and went as far as trying to get pregnant for a few months.  Unsuccessful, I am taking it as a sign from above to get myself in shape and healthier first.

So here is my 1,000th re commitment to the blog, healthy eating and exercise to lose weight and get to a goal of losing 135lbs.  Maybe not by my birthday 12/12/12, but I would like to see how far I can get to goal by then.

Hope you are still out there, blogging and being healthy.  I will be catching up on the blogs and stuff during the week and will be sure to stop by your sites to say hello.

In the mean time, have a happy and healthy week.

January Wrap Up

Sorry for the radio silence, folks.  As usual, work has taken over my life and kept me from logging on and checking in on the blog.  Plus my laptop at home has crapped out and I can't get blogger to work on my ipad for anything!  Boo Hiss!

In the past, my lack of posting would be a combination of work, too busy, family time,  and a lack of progress on the weight loss front.  I am happy to report this month, that this is not the case!  Even in my silence, even with work coming out of my ears, a sick baby, and a weekend away I have been relatively good.  I sneak in exercise when I can (although, not as much as I would like) and I have been eating mostly healthy, nutritious meals.

In this first month of being back again, I have lost 12lbs.  (Starting Weight:  337, currently 325)

My month in review is really a list of things I am the most proud of myself for this month....
  • I am proud that I was successful, despite the obstacles in my path.
  • I am proud that I didn't cave into cravings and waited them out until they were gone.  (That darn cheesesteak craving has been intense for 4 weeks now and it still hasn't gone away... I might have to cave in on that one this weekend.  But will make it work in my calories for the day.)
  • I am proud that even when I felt like I couldn't/didn't want to, I did.  (Making dinner after a 14 hour day instead of ordering pizza or going through drive thru was a major moment for me this month.)
  • I am proud that I didn't slip back into old patterns after a weekend of mistakes.  Instead I started new and moved on.
February is going to be just as busy if not busier.  I have outlined a few goals below:
  •  I am still trying to work out daily, but if I can get at least 3 days under my belt I would be happy.
  • I want to keep a fruit bowl or veggie tray at my office for snacking.  It will help combat the snack attack I get on those long days in front of my computer creating reports and analysis.  My desk snacks are almost gone and I realized they were not very filling.  (Pop chips, 100 calories packs of nuts and granola bars.)
  • I want to keep a few pre-made salads in my fridge at work for late nights at the office.  Trader Joe's has a few that I can try.
  • I still hate yogurt, but want to try it again.  I think it is another quick and easy breakfast item/snack that will help me at work too.
  • I need to drink more water.  I started out great at the beginning of January, but as I got busier during the month, my drinking slowed way down.

I hope you are all doing well.  I plan on getting online and catching up on your blogs over the weekend.  :)

Another quick WI drop by

I know that I owe you a real post, but time does not allow it these days.  I did have a rough week, followed by an unusual comfort eating weekend, but I managed to lose a pound in all that mess.  Down another 1 lb, and not looking back.  I may not be perfect, but I am making better choices, and improving my lifestyle.  Slowly but surely I will get to my goal.  In the mean time, I just do my best and strive to find a little extra energy at the end of the day to get my exercise in.

Hope you are all doing well!

Weekend Ramblings

Let the weekend ramblings begin....

First of all, I am unofficially down a pound since last week.  I am feeling much better and am ready to start exercising again.  Tomorrow... family walk.  If that goes well, maybe a Leslie Sansone DVD that night.  PS - Thank you very much for your well wishes.  :)

I haven't been sleeping well again.  I am up at 3am watching  a Nurse Jackie marathon if that says anything.  Not just this week because I have been sick, but even before.  I have a lot on my mind.  I am going to try taking a hot shower before bed to see if it relaxes me and allows me to get to sleep at a decent hour.  I thought the exercising would help, but I didn't see much of a difference.

Once Holly took a nap I went on an organizing and cleaning spree.  I have thrown out, set up donation boxes and took inventory of what we have in my household stock closet.  It felt pretty good to be rid of some more clutter.

Have I told you that my husband has decided to have gastric bypass surgery?   He had his appointment on Friday and is starting the approval process and wait period (our insurance requires).  He is really excited about it and I am happy for him.  He got a Dummies book for life after gastric bypass.  We have been reading from it this weekend.  I think we will have a healthy competition for weight loss.  I am sure he will win when it comes to numbers and how quickly, but we all need a good competition every now and then. Besides finally having him in the trenches for good is a huge help.  He is very supportive of me, but also my #1 enabler.  (As I am his.)  I am having a good feeling about all this.

sicky poo

I woke up on Wednesday officially sick.  I had been fighting a cold for several weeks, and I thought I had finally out run the little stinker, but my husband got sick last weekend and apparently infected us all.  Now, my husband is back at work and feeling better and my daughter, my mother and I are home dying together.

I haven't been able to work out since I got sick, and trying to get rest instead.  I haven't been tracking either, which is a no, no, but I know I was going over calories just based on the orange juice consumption alone.  I am one of those sickies who drink a gallon of OJ after they get sick.  I guess if I was drinking it all along, I wouldn't be in this predicament.

I also noticed that I crave comfort food and snacks more than ever when I am sick.  Especially ice cream, puddings, etc. since they are creamy and don't irritate my sore throat.  I have had a portion controlled bit of those things and they haven't been meal replacements, thank goodness!  I am still portioning out my foods, and have been drinking a ton of water, herb tea with honey, etc.

I still weigh in everyday and my weight as of today is 330.9.  So at least I am not going up, without the exercise.  I actually miss moving my body around and look forward to getting back to business.

Hope you are all well and taking your vitamins!
